UK Armed Forces Cadets: Why Volunteer?

Have you ever considered supporting the UK's Armed Forces Cadets? There are a huge number of volunteering opportunities available as instructors, mentors and helpers.

The benefits of volunteering with the Uk's Armed Forces Cadets are varied, from learning new skills, meeting people, taking on challenges and gaining valuable experience. You do not need a military background and you are provided with all the training you require.

The UK has several military cadet organizations, including the Army Cadet Force, the Sea Cadet Corps, and the Air Training Corps, which are separate from the regular military and are open to young people aged 12 to 18. The combined total number of cadets in these organisations is estimated to be around 50,000.

For most people taking part in volunteering projects is about 'giving something back', socialising and making new friends, or getting to know the local community. Others enjoy feeling like a valued member of a team, finding a worthwhile hobby that gives them quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle, or knowing they are making a difference to the lives of young people. As a volunteer, you will watch as the cadets grow and develop, knowing that you have helped them along the way is one of the most rewarding parts of being a volunteer in for the Cadets.

Working alongside other adults at your detachment, you will develop teamwork and leadership skills in a whole new environment. Sometimes this can even lead to a career change or a promotion. Simply by helping run cadet activities, you can earn a range of respected vocational qualifications, of real value in today’s workplace.

You will have a chance to try out all the activities on offer to cadets and may choose to specialise in a particular area. Training in specialist subjects can lead to fully-accredited qualifications through organisations like St John Ambulance, the British Canoe Union, Mountain Leader Training England, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, the National Rifle Association and the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board.
