National Act of Remembrance

Yesterday marked a significant moment in our national calendar, Remembrance Sunday. Today, as we observe Armistice Day, we honour the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms, as well as those who continue to serve.

Their courage and the sacrifices made by their families form the backbone of our nation's security and democracy. It is our duty to remember and respect their contributions, ensuring their legacies are preserved and cherished. This day also reminds us to advocate for a stronger emphasis on defence within society’s priorities.

Universal Defence and Security Solutions Director, Vice Admiral (Ret'd) Duncan Potts CB, who also serves as the National President of the Royal Naval Association, laid a wreath at the National Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph, alongside representatives from other Service charities.

‘Representing Naval veterans and those who have crossed the bar in the service of the Country is a great honour. Commemoration and remembrance is one of the central missions of the RNA, and Remembrance Weekend, whether it is locally around the country, or as part of the main national event, is important to all our shipmates. It is of course a time to remember those that went before us, but also an opportunity to reflect on our own individual service and those we served with.’

Remembrance Sunday highlights the ongoing need for strong defence strategies and the vital role of the Armed Forces in upholding national and global security. In a world facing complex geopolitical challenges, we must reaffirm our support for those who protect our nation and ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Moving forward, it is essential not only to honour the memory of those who served but to strengthen our resolve in prioritising defence and security. Remembrance Sunday urges us to reflect on the importance of service and sacrifice and to build a society that values and upholds the contributions of our Armed Forces. Their legacy stands as a testament to the resilience and unity needed to safeguard our future.
