UDSS Member Stephen Jolly to Lead British Gun Trade Association

Universal Defence and Security Solutions is delighted to share the news that one of its members, Stephen Jolly, has been appointed as the next Chief Executive Officer of the UK’s Gun Trade Association (GTA).

Stephen will assume his new role next month, bringing with him a wealth of experience and leadership gained from an impressive career spanning both the private and public sectors.

Stephen previously served as the UK’s Director of Defence Communications at the Ministry of Defence and has held senior corporate affairs roles at Nomura, Clearstream, Regus, and the University of Cambridge. Most recently, he has been working internationally in Oslo, and his return to the UK marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for both Stephen and the GTA.

Founded in 1891, the Gun Trade Association plays a vital role in promoting and protecting the interests of the British gun trade. Representing manufacturers, distributors, and retailers across the UK and beyond, the GTA works closely with the Government on licensing and regulatory issues, while also advising law enforcement agencies and local authorities. The UK gun trade is an essential part of Britain’s £3.3 billion shooting sector, supporting the equivalent of 67,000 jobs.

A keen sporting shot and former Army reservist, Stephen is well placed to lead this prestigious association. On his appointment, he said: “It is a privilege to be asked to represent one of Britain’s oldest and most prestigious trade associations. Despite its international reputation for excellence, Britain’s gun trade faces many challenges. I look forward to continuing the outstanding work of my predecessor Simon West in defending and promoting this small but vital sector of the British economy.”

Oskar Waktare, Chairman of the GTA, welcomed Stephen’s appointment, stating: “We are delighted to bring onboard Stephen Jolly whose wealth of experience will help the gun trade to prosper and deal with the headwinds the trade faces. His strategic skills will undoubtedly bring further benefits to the wider shooting community.”

Universal Defence and Security Solutions congratulates Stephen on his new position and wishes him every success as he leads the GTA into this new chapter. His appointment further underscores the breadth and calibre of expertise within our network, reflecting our continued commitment to supporting leaders across defence, security, and beyond.
