Reserves Day 2023

In 2023, Reserves Day is being celebrated on Wednesday 21 June to recognise the contribution made by the country's reserve forces, including the Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Marines Reserve, Army Reserve and the Royal Air Force Reserve.

Reserve Forces' Day, also known as Reserves Day, is marked in the UK on the third Monday in June to recognise the contribution made by the country's reserve forces, including the Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Marines Reserve, Army Reserve and the Royal Air Force Reserve. The day is marked with events and activities, such as parades and ceremonies, across the country to celebrate the role of reserve forces and to raise awareness of their work.

Here's how Reserves Day 2022 was marked:

This year, all of our UDSS Reservists will be marking the day by attending their civilian workplace in their military uniform, to help raise awareness about the vital role Reservists play in serving their country. Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should their country require them, they would be ready to serve as part of the military.

The Reserve Forces make up approximately one sixth of our Armed Forces personnel and as such are integral to protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas, particularly providing capability in specialist areas such as medical and cyber.

UDSS, as signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, are wholly committed to supporting the UK's Reserve Forces. We support our Reservist employees by offering extra paid leave to attend annual training or career courses. Volunteer reservists are typically committed to around 30 days' training per year. UDSS grants volunteer members of the reserve forces two weeks' paid leave of absence to attend annual camp, in addition to their normal annual leave entitlement.
