Alan’s last role in the MoD was as Director Weapons, where he led the creation and sustainment of sovereign industrial capability at sector level, whilst delivering a range of high value complex equipment systems and capabilities. Before that, he held a range of senior level appointments in the MOD’s Defence Equipment and Support organisation.

After a spell of consultancy, involving, amongst other things, organisational design and transformation, in 2015 he moved to the Department of Defence in Canberra, to lead the largest recapitalisation of the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet since 1945. He returned to the UK in 2019.
