UDSS deepest condolences to Japanese Nation over death of Shinzo Abe

UDSS share their sincere condolences with the Japanese nation at this time of great sadness.

UDSS Co-chairman Peter Hewitt commented, 'On behalf of the UDSS team, I send our deepest condolences to the Japanese nation on the great loss of Shinzo Abe. His passing is a great loss not only to Japan but to the world as a whole, we shall all miss him."

Mr Abe died on Friday afternoon, hours after a man shot him at an election campaign event in the western region of Nara. Japanese media reported that the suspect, who has been taken into custody, used what appeared to be a homemade firearm.

As Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, Mr Abe made significant contributions.

This was done through his signature reforms, such as Abenomics, which developed Japan’s economy and society to improve the lives of ordinary Japanese people. Mr Abe’s achievements as an active international statesman deepened Japan’s engagement with regional groupings such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Shinzo Abe was a Japanese politician who served as Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) from 2006 to 2007 and from 2012 to 2020. He was the longest-serving prime minister in Japanese history.
